Chasing
When does Badger actually email my client?
The invoice itself goes out the moment you create it, with a PDF attached. After that, reminders follow a schedule built around the due date — by default a friendly nudge 3 days before, a clear one on the day, then firmer reminders at 3, 7 and 14 days overdue. You can change those steps and the tone in Settings. Every invoice page shows you the exact next reminder, rendered as your client will receive it — no surprises.
Can I stop chasing one invoice without stopping the rest?
Yes — open the invoice and hit Pause chasing. It drops out of the schedule immediately and no further reminders go out until you resume. You can also pause every invoice for one client from that client’s page.
Will Badger email a client I’ve already been paid by?
No. Marking an invoice paid — by hand, or automatically when an online payment lands — cancels its scheduled reminders on the spot. If you record a part payment, chasing continues on the remaining balance only. Marked one paid by mistake? Choose Reopen invoice from its More menu and its reminders are put back.
Do reminders come from me, or from Badger?
They’re written in your name and signed off as you, and replies go to your address — so to your client it reads like you chasing, not a robot. Badger’s name appears only in a small footer, which the Pro plan removes.
Late payment & statutory interest
What is the “interest the law owes you”?
For commercial (business-to-business) debts in the UK, the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 entitles you to interest at 8% above the Bank of England base rate, plus a fixed compensation sum per invoice, once payment is late. Badger calculates it from the invoice’s own figures and shows it on overdue reminders and the invoice document.
Do I have to claim the interest?
It’s your choice — you’re entitled to it, but plenty of people waive it to keep a client relationship sweet. You can switch the claim off, or set a grace period before it starts accruing, in Settings. It only applies to business clients: untick “This client is a business” on a private individual’s client page and Badger never adds it for them.
What if a client still doesn’t pay?
Once an invoice is 30+ days overdue, its page offers a collections pack: a formal Letter Before Action with the statutory figures, plus an evidence bundle showing every reminder sent and when. That’s what a collections agency or the small claims court asks for. Badger prepares it; sending it stays your decision.
Is this legal advice?
No. Badger applies the statutory formula to the numbers on your invoice, but it isn’t a law firm and none of this is legal advice. For a disputed or high-value debt, talk to a solicitor.
Getting paid
How do my clients pay?
Every invoice carries a pay link. Depending on what you’ve connected in Settings → Payments, that offers card (plus Apple Pay, Google Pay and Pay by Bank), PayPal, or your bank details for a manual transfer. When an online payment clears, the invoice is marked paid and chasing stops automatically.
Can a client pay only part of an invoice?
Yes — the pay page has a “Pay a different amount” option. Badger records what they actually paid, leaves the invoice open, and chases only the remaining balance. You can also record a payment yourself (a deposit, or a bank transfer that landed) from the invoice page.
Do bank transfers get picked up automatically?
Not yet, but there’s a shortcut: Reconcile lets you upload a bank statement CSV, and Badger matches the incoming payments to your open invoices — using the invoice number in the payment reference — for you to confirm in one click. A live bank connection is on the way.
What fees does Badger take on payments?
None. Card and PayPal payments go through your own connected account, so you pay only that provider’s normal processing fee — Badger doesn’t take a cut of your invoices.
Invoices, VAT & credit notes
Can I charge VAT?
Yes. Set a default rate in Settings → Invoicing (20% for most UK businesses) and it pre-fills on new invoices and quotes; you can override it per invoice. If you’re VAT-registered, add your VAT number and business address in Settings too — a UK VAT invoice legally has to show them, and Badger prints them on the invoice once set.
How do I cancel or reduce an invoice I’ve already sent?
Issue a credit note from the invoice page — that’s the correct way to reduce what a client owes (a return, a goodwill discount, a cancellation), rather than deleting the invoice. It lowers the balance, produces a proper credit-note document you can send, and if it clears the balance entirely the invoice is settled and chasing stops. Raised one by mistake? As long as no payment or credit is recorded against it, you can delete it from the invoice’s More menu.
Can I invoice in another currency?
Yes — pick the currency when you create or edit an invoice or quote; an accepted quote’s invoice keeps it. Each invoice keeps its own currency on its document, pay link and PDF. Your dashboard totals are shown in your account currency and never mix currencies together.
Can I bring in invoices I’ve already raised elsewhere?
Yes — Import takes a CSV or Excel export from most accounting tools. Paid invoices come in as records; anything still open arrives paused, so nobody is chased until you review them and switch chasing on.
Account & data
Where is my data, and who can see it?
In a UK/EU-hosted database, scoped so that only your account can read your rows. We don’t sell data or use your clients’ details for anything except sending the reminders you set up. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
How do I cancel, or get my data out?
Cancel any time from Settings — you keep paid access to the end of the period you’ve paid for. You can export your invoices to CSV whenever you like, and you can ask us to delete your account and its data by emailing hello@getbadger.co.uk.
Something looks wrong — what do I do?
Email us. If it’s about a specific invoice, include the invoice number and roughly when it happened, and we’ll get to the bottom of it far quicker.
Still stuck?
Tell us what you were trying to do and what happened instead — with an invoice number if it relates to one — and we’ll sort it.
